...are back at Folk in the Barn as part of their fantastic new album (The Ties That Bind) launch tour.  Have a listen below....

Since their formation in 2002 three-times-BBC-Folk-Award nominees Mawkin have grown into one of brit-folks brightest new guns: a blistering 5-piece band fusing folk, blues and rock, they are no strangers to the cutting edge of the contemporary music scene while still reigning all the verve and mystique of ancient folk music traditions from across the globe.

Throughout this album launch tour expect to hear rousing songs of rebellion from David Delarre (Eliza Carthy, Tred) underpinned by the frenetic fiddling fingers of James Delarre (Saul Rose & James Delarre, Topette) and virtuosic bellowing of Nick Cooke’s melodeon (Kate Rusby, Jim Moray) held together by a solid rhythm section with Danny Crump on Bass and Lee Richardson on Drums. Add a host of wild and emotive traditional melodies and you have Mawkin.

Mawkin last played for Folk in the Barn in 2010 – a wonderful Valentines Day concert at the Whitstable Playhouse, some of you may remember.  Long overdue for a return, we’re thrilled they’re coming to raise the roof off the Barn!   (Be warned - there may be dancing!)

Mawkin have very generously given us a preview of their brand new album...  I think it's really exciting music... have a listen here....

here's a little of what they do....

The wonderful Arcelia will open the evening with their beautiful soulful songs.

An exciting intimate trio featuring the songs of Gavin Alexander. The lyrical, soulful voices of Simon Foster, Teresa Gallagher and Gavin Alexander blend within intricate harmonies that will linger in the memory. With a sprinkling of acoustic guitar and percussion, Arcelia is an experience not to be missed.

"Acoustic folk trio Arcelia delivered a thirty minute set of songs that I can only describe as riveting, emotive, and beauty-filled. This performance was among the finest I have heard for quite some time. Each of the vocalists took a lead role in at least one song backed beautifully by the other two. From the opening bars of their first song, those tell-tale goose pimples started swimming and I don't think they stopped for the whole set. Every word seemed filled with sweet sibilance; every harmony was precise but filled with warmth. Definitely a life affirming a memorable performance." Dave Grenfell , 100 Club Review.
