Something a bit different - but very very special....
Folk in the Barn in association with St Mary’s Art Centre proudly present a performance by two of the world’s greatest guitarists: John Williams & John Etheridge. This mind blowing duo have astounded audiences worldwide with their superb skill. The repertoire for the evening includes many self-penned compositions.
John Williams’ first appearance as a classical guitarist was in 1958 at London’s Wigmore Hall. Since then, Australian born Williams has regularly appeared on radio and television programs across the world; working with a number of composers and musicians including Stephan Dodgson, Patrick Gowers, Julian Bream and Cleo Laine. Williams’ most acclaimed piece of music, taken from Stanley Myers’ ‘Cavatina’, became a world-wide hit as the theme tune to Oscar winning The Deer Hunter (1978). He is also well known for his marvelous performances of Bach, Elgar, Haydn and Rodrigo.

John Etheridge’s beginning in performance was with drummer Robert Lipson, in Rush Release in the sixties. He then went on to play for several other rock & progressive rock bands, including Deep Purple offshoot: Warhorse; until, in 1976, he became Soft Machine’s lead guitarist. Noted for playing both electric and classical guitar, Etheridge’s skill in incorporating both styles effortlessly has attracted talented musicians all over the world leading him to work with violinists Stephan Grappelli and Nigel Kennedy. As well as his Duo with John Williams, Etheridge’s Sweet Chorus project with Violinist Chris Garrick embraces his love of the great Swing Jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt.
