Folk in the Barn, in association with The Gulbenkian Theatre presents Fairport Convention

Folk in the Barn are thrilled to be working with the Gulbenkian Theatre to bring along to Canterbury some of the UK’s top Folk and Roots artists, and Fairport Convention are top of the list. Although they’ve visited Canterbury on their Spring Acoustic Tour for the past four years, it’s great to have them return to Canterbury with a ‘rocking’ Winter Tour date and even better that it’s at the fabulous Gulbenkian Theatre.

Hailed as the originators of British folk-rock music, Fairport Convention remains one of the most entertaining bands on the live music scene.

Fairport's 2014 Winter Tour concerts will feature a mix of material from their recent albums as well as classics from the band’s earlier repertoire. There will also be some brand new and previously unperformed songs destined for Fairport’s next studio album.

Each concert on the tour will feature an opening solo set from talented singer/songwriter Edwina Hayes who has worked with Jools Holland, Nanci Griffith and Roger McGuinn among others.

Fairport Convention features Simon Nicol on guitar and lead vocals, Dave Pegg on bass and backing vocals, Chris Leslie on fiddle, mandolin, bouzouki and lead vocals, Ric Sanders on violin and Gerry Conway on drums and percussion.

The band has won a coveted BBC Lifetime Achievement Award and Radio 2 listeners voted Fairport’s groundbreaking album Liege & Lief  'The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time'.

Whether you are a long-time fan or a newcomer to their music an evening with Fairport Convention will surprise and delight you.
