Phil is one of the most popular ambassadors for acoustic roots music. A dazzling instrumentalist, he is perhaps best known as a top flight fiddler and the multi-instrumental half of the west countryʼs award winning acoustic duo, Show of Hands. Phil also plays in the all-star line-up, Feast of Fiddles. But his skills don’t stop there, he plays slide, Spanish and tenor guitar, mandocello, viola, mandolin and South American cuatro, not to mention contributing rich vocals.

With a professional career of over 36 years, playing in too many bands and line ups to list fully but the most notable sessions in his career range from the Rolling Stones’ album Steel Wheels and Mike Oldfield’s live album Exposed to albums by the Albion Band as well as the huge catalogue of Show of Hands.

How do you describe a Phil Beer Performance?
Fun, eccentric, informative with the constant sounds of jaws hitting the floor. Phil could coax a beautiful tune from a length of clothes-line.  Not only that but his gigs really do have something for everyone,  traditional tunes, covers of Springsteen or The Hollies, together with his own compositions and songs from his contemporaries.

Phil continues to work on new projects and will be running a series of sailing trips combined with informal music workshops next summer (2014)
