Sally Barker -  the Voice that made Sir Tom Jones cry
Sally Barker's voice has the ability to lift the words off the page and, yes, move people to tears.

Millions of viewers tuned in to see Sally's flawless performances on the BBC TV programme the Voice. This included a duet with Sir Tom Jones who consistently, sometimes tearfully, championed Sally telling her “It was just so beautiful that I couldn’t help myself. You swept me off my feet”.

Sally is no newcomer to the music scene; she has recorded 6 acclaimed solo albums, with songwriting influences from folk, country, soul and blues, and is well respected for her work with all-female folk supergroup The Poozies.  Sally's years of touring have also included supporting the likes of Bob Dylan & Robert Plant.

Since her appearance on the Voice, Sally's back catalogue has seen a resurgence of sales. Sally's album 'Another Train' featured in the official indie charts and ebayers were asking in excess of £100 for 2nd hand Barker CDs !

Here at Folk in the Barn, we’ve been aware of Sally for years and loved her voice and songs, especially ‘This Rhythm is mine’ sung by Miranda Sykes, and the beautiful  ‘Captains’ sung with Show of Hands at the Royal Albert Hall in 1996 (and available on the Live Album of the same name)  We were so pleased to see her do so brilliantly on The Voice, and are beyond thrilled to have her coming to play for Folk in the Barn at the Gulbenkian. A backstage chat with Phil Beer during his recent visit revealed that it was Phil who originally 'found' Sally and invited her to perform with Show of Hands. Well done Phil!   I never thought we'd have a Will i am, or Kylie quote on one of our gig pages....

"Sally changes the atmosphere in a room when she sings"

BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans

"I have to say you sound amazing"

“That was beautiful. Sally makes the room stop.”
Kylie Minogue

We've just heard that Sally will have a special guest on this tour - the amazing performer - Vicki Genfan

Vicki Genfan and Sally Barker met during the 2002 'Women on Stage' tour of Germany and have been firm friends ever since. A mutual respect for each other's talents has prompted them to tour together again.

Vicki Genfan is a dazzling instrumentalist who plays and writes with her distinctive percussive 'slap-tap' acoustic guitar technique.

Vicki was the first woman to win Guitar Player magazine’s Guitar Superstar Competition and was also one of the featured artists on La Guitara, a CD featuring the world’s top female guitarists across all styles. Having performed at hundreds of venues across the US and abroad, Vicki's festival highlights include The International Montreal Jazz Festival, Germany’s Open Strings Guitar Festival and Italy’s Soave Guitar Festival.

“Vicki mesmerized the audience and the judges -- not just with her stunning technique, but also with her musicality and charisma.” - Michael Molenda, Chief Editor Guitar Player Magazine

“If I could play like Vicki, I’d stay home and entertain myself.” - Steve Vai
