Richard Shindell with Special Guest Danny Bradley

Richard Shindell lives as both an immigrant and emigrant, crossing thresholds, that informs his illumination of the human experience through narrative song.  Shindell has inhabited a Zen Buddhist monastery, busked in the streets of Paris, opened for Joan Baez (who covered several of his songs), and collaborated with Grammy-winner Larry Campbell (BobDylan, Levon Helm, Elvis Costello).

Originally from New York, now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Shindell is awriter whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be.

Innovative, original and occasionally spiritual, Shindell’s songs weave tales that interchangeably champion the downtrodden, exalt the disaffected or wax empathetic to those lost to society's fringes. From lighthearted ballads and adulterous love songs, to dirges and diatribes that skillfully skewer politics, prejudice, war and religion, he has a unique ability to morph into the soul of the many and varied personalities he casts as narrators in certain songs—veritable novellas framed in haunting acoustic melodies.

If you haven’t heard of his name, you will know his songs. Reunion Hill, You Stay Here, The Next Best Western, Wisteria....have all been covered by the likes of Fairport Convention, Show of Hands, Chris & Kellie While.

After a very long wait he was my dream booking of 2024.  We are thrilled to have him back again so soonDebs, Folk in the Barn

"Occasionally an artist has a night that makes even skeptics think, “O.K., maybe he is the best.” Richard Shindell achieved this."Ann Powers, NY Times

Danny Bradley – Danny is a beautifully talented finger-style guitarist and songwriter who recently toured to great acclaim as the opening act for Richard Thompson, and Fairport Convention, on their respective UK tours. 2025 also saw Danny a Grand Prize winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Danny’s debut solo album, 'Small Talk Songs', was recorded in his Liverpool city centre flat, with three microphones. Throughout the recording process, he opened the door to his little fifth-floor balcony, so that the songs of the Scouse seagulls overhead could be heard lilting quietly in the background of this airy, richly recorded acoustic album.

When Phil Beer (Show of Hands) first saw Danny play live supporting Fairport Convention, he said to me ‘I’ll bet he’s a Richard Shindell fan’. Not only is he a huge fan of Richard, but he also plays one of Richard’s guitars.  I thought these two together in concert would be the perfect match. – Debs, Folk in the Barn
